The landscape around us has been shaped by mining and by dangerous underground work since the 12th century and that has given us a very strong sense of responsibility. MKM has taken its corporate, social and ecological responsibility seriously ever since it was founded in 1909.
MKM as employer
MKM is one of the biggest employers in Sachsen-Anhalt and is represented worldwide by numerous sales offices. Our workforce of over 1,200 people produced around 264,000 tons of copper in 2016, which we supplied to around 1,000 customers in 60 countries. We offer our employees and their families – some of whom have been with us for three generations – not only an attractive environment to work in, but also prospects they can rely upon.
MKM is one of Sachsen-Anhalt’s recognised training establishments. We are currently training 82 young people, 61 of whom are our own apprentices, the other 21 being specialists-in-training belonging to partner companies.
MKM as corporate citizen
We are careful to maintain an open and collaborative relationship with our immediate neighbours. By keeping in frequent contact with local communities and the state of Sachsen-Anhalt, we participate actively whenever we are needed – from supra-regional training all the way to providing social support for people in need. We encourage our employees to engage in voluntary work.
MKM as an environmentally conscious company
We believe in sustainability. Not only do we reduce the amount of raw materials used because copper is such an easy material to recycle; we also aim to reduce immissions, emissions and the waste we produce. In 2008 we voluntarily subscribed to the new European Chemical Regulation – REACH – to ensure that our products would only contain registered substances (metals).
